1. Wash the glass in your patio
door. When your insert panel is installed there will be some overlapping of
the slider panel
and the stationary panel. This is nearly impossible the clean without
removing the insert panel, so cleaning it before
installation will save time and trouble.
2. Determine whether you want your insert panel on the slider (or opening)
side, or on the stationary side of your patio door. It is easier to install
on the slider side, but may necessitate moving alarm sensors is there are
any present. If your patio door has a keyed lock, installing the insert
panel on the slider side will prevent use of this type of lock.
3. If you are installing on the opening side, skip this step!
Locate and remove and securing screws which may be holding your stationary
panel to the door jamb. Slide the stationary panel over far enough to give
you room to work. |

| 4. Measure the height of the
door frame. |
|
5. Mark the side rails of your insert panel and cut them to length with a
hacksaw

6. Place the panel
unit in the track and see how it fits. If you are installing on the
stationary side, push the stationary
panel up tight against the insert panel and check for gaps. If you are
installing on the slider side, close the slider up
tight against the insert panel and check for gaps. Any gaps between the edge
of the slider and the insert panel should be
covered when the lock strip is installed. If you see any gaps you should be
able to close them by leaning the insert panel
one way or the other. If this doesn't work, you may wish to apply foam-type
weather strip (available at any hardware store)
to the side rail of your insert panel.

| 7. The insert panel should be
pulled tight against the door jamb lip to allow you to screw the insert
panel in place, If there is not enough of a lip to screw through, the insert
panel can be secured in place with silicone caulk. NOTE: The side rails of
your insert panel are notched at the bottom to allow it to straddle the
wheel track in the door jamb, but it does not have to do so! It may be
necessary to set the insert panel on top of the wheel track in order to pull
it tight enough to screw it to the lip. |

| 8. Once you are satisfied with
the placement of your insert panel, it is time to screw it into place. Use
#6 sheet metal screws (included). Do not place the screws too close to the
glass. If a screw hits glass the glass will break. |

| 9. If you are installing on the
stationary side, this step may not be necessary! The lock strip will be
screwed to the leading edge of your slider. Be very careful installing the
screws. If a screw hits glass the glass will break. The latch bar needs to
be inside the house. This is what the lock will latch to. |

11. Apply the vinyl weather strip (included) to the back edge of the slider
or the front edge of the stationary panel. This will eliminate any gaps
created by overlapping glass. |
