Johnson Flap Identifying Information
(Now marketed as "Petsafe Two-Part Flaps)
Important notice: PetSafe has discontinued these replacement flaps and they have become very difficult to find. If you can't find the size you need, then the next best option is to use a Pride Pet Door flap. This is the only case where the flap of one brand will fit another brand. There are three differences to note: 1) The Pride Pet Product flaps are solid black rubber, not tinted vinyl as were the Johnson flaps; 2) the "Large" size Pride flap does not have the magnet half way up the U-shaped gasket piece that the Petsafe Ultimate Large size had; and, 3) The Pride Pet Product U-Shaped sections do not have the safety slit at the screw-hole that the Petsafe (Johnson) had.
Johnson replacement flaps were originally manufactured by Johnson Pet-Door company. Here's some historical information that you may find useful in identifying your Johnson flap.
Johnson flaps are two piece construction: a center flap with U-shaped 'gasket' piece both constructed of clear, tinted, flexible vinyl. Tinting has varied in density over the years. This design, which was apparently intended to seal well, has led to some confusion on the part of customers attempting to replace their flaps. Some measure inside (the opening available to the pet) and others measure the full outside dimension.
What is presented below is "Inside" the U-shaped piece. Focus on the width as that is the easiest to measure accurately.
Magnets are embedded in the flap corresponding to iron 'keepers' glued to the aluminum or plastic frame. Neither the magnets or the keepers are available separately.
Johnson sizes have size notations, S-2, M-2, L-2 or XL-4, embossed on the flap. We have seen some exceptions to this, however. A very few flaps have nothing on them.
Since Petsafe bought the Johnson Pet Door company, they now package these flaps labeled "PetSafe". Don't be confused; it's the same flap.
Incidentally, if the only problem is that the U-Shape of your Johson flap has been pulled off, you probably just need to put it back on!
