The Petsafe Electronic Smart Door and Wall Framing Kit
provides a Petsafe Smart Door in medium or large size and the corresponding wall kit to allow installation in a wall.
The Smart Door recognizes the Smart Key on your dogs collar and unlocks to allow your dog access. The sensing range is adjustable up to 3 feet. After your pet passes through, the door will re-lock again automatically. Animals without the Smart Key are not able to enter. You may have a total of 5 Smart Keys in use at one time.
The design of this electronic door is particularly clever and effective. The flap actually descends over a ridge in the frame beneath the flap. The important result is that it is quite rigidly fixed and cannot be pushed open in either direction. A major significance of this fact is that we expect the door to be raccoon-proof. Many electronic pet doors of past years, and some still sold today, control in one direction only. So the flap can't be pushed inward, but some clever raccoons have figured out how to pull the flap outward and duck under to get in. Controlling in both directions solves this problem.
Each Smart Door includes one collar key. The collar key does not interfere with in ground or invisible fencing.
Petsafe has developed self-framing wall kits for both sizes of their electronic Smart Door to ease installation in a wall. The kits adjust from 3 3/4" to 7" and there is an extender for the large size only that extends the range to 9".
Power is provided by "D" cell batteries (not included). There is no low battery indicator on the Electronic Smart Door so it might be useful to keep a spare collar key nearby to use for testing purposes. When the activation range begins to decrease it's time to change the batteries.
Petsafe has advised us that these products may be installed in a metal door with some reduction in the sensing range. However, they have never tested this type of installation. We'll note here if someone does and let's us know.
Important Note Petsafe now puts the collar key that comes with the Smart Door inside the battery compartment. where you have to unscrew the cover to get to it. So if you find only one key, that' must be a second one that you purchased.. Look in the battery compartment for the first one.
Important News Petsafe has made numerous enhancements to the original design. These address many of the problems noted elsewhere on the web. Take a look at our Smart Door improvements page to see what they are.
