PetSafe SmartDoor Improvements
Petsafe has implemented numerous improvements in the Smart Door since its introduction
- The Smart Door circuit board receiver section has been encapsulated. This measure prevents the region in which the Smart Key is recognized from varying even under very damp, high humidity conditions. The distance at which the Smart Door unlocks remains the same from day to day.
- By adding cable ties to control the routing of internal wiring, the variation in sensitivity and in the areas inside and outside in which the Smart Key is recognized are each kept more stable from door to door. Thus consistency between doors is preserved.
- The antenna length in the large Smart Door was increased from 1/4 wavelength to full-wavelength. This change minimizes null areas and hot spots in the active zone (area in which the Smart Key is recognized) and equalizes the size of the inside and outside active areas.
- Flap jamming problems and failure to close properly have been corrected by adding the capability for the Smart Door to back up and retry if an obstruction or potential jam is encountered as the flap is being locked. If these retries are not successful, the door is left in the unlocked position and a flashing LED alerts the user to the fact that he needs to intervene. This change is extremely important. A pet cannot be locked in or out due to flap jamming as the flap would be left in an unlocked position.
- Stronger magnets for flap centering have been added to both the small and large sizes. This reduces the chance of the flap being held open by wind and then unable to lock shut.
- The sensitivity adjustment knob has been redesigned to positively engage the potentiometer it turns, to include mechanical stops to prevent turning beyond its maximum and minimum limits and has a new pointer with tick marks on the bezel.
- A "sensitivity test mode" has been added which makes it very easy for the user to tell where the unit will recognize the Smart Key and where it will not.
- The Operating Guide has been improved with better and more complete instructions and graphics.
- The capability to "Unprogram" keys has been added. Unprogramming and relearning a Smart Key is one method of resolving difficulties.
- Stronger pushrod springs have been added to the locking cam assembly to eliminate the flap "clacking" against the frame.
