A Pride Screen Adapter combined with a Pride Pet Door

is a much sturdier approach to installation of a pet door in a screen because the adapter is supported by the screen framing on two sides. This is the best approach for larger or more active dogs. Adapter sizes are available to accommodate all Pride Pet Door sizes.

Please review the Pride 'Installation' information to clarify the Pride Screen Adapter installation. Remember that you usually need both the screen adapter and the pet door (if you are moving a Pride Pet Door from a door to a screen then you only need the adapter).

Important:

The Pride adapter is intended to fit over a screen frame no thicker than 1/2". If your screen frame is thicker than this, you will need to rip the 'U' shape with a table saw to an 'L' shape which can then be installed. If you have a question on this point, please call.

Hot Tip: Check the clearance needed to open the screen. The Pride Pet Door locking cover frame will protrude about 1/2" from the front of the pet door towards the inside of the house. If the screen is next to the door, then that track could interfere with opening the screen all the way.

Hint: The locking cover tracks can be removed by drilling out the rivets that hold it. We don't think you really want a locking cover on a screen install anyway as the dog may paw and tear the screen if he's locked out by the pet door.

Important: You'll also need the Pride Pet Door to fit in the screen adapter. These cost considerably more than the adapter by itself! The adapter by itself is not a complete pet door for screens.

These graphics show the installation steps for the Pride Screen Adapter Kit:
First, remove the entire screen assembly and lay it on the floor. Then remove the screen spline from the lower corner as shown.
Fit the screen adapter frame into the lower corner of the screen frame. Note that the adapter is sized to fit framing up to a maximum of 1/2" thick. Note:; If your screen frame is thicker than that, the work-around is to cut away the outside wall of the adapter frame to turn the 'U' shape into an 'L' shape which will allow for screen framing of any thickness. Best tool for this would be a table saw set to a shallow cut.
Fasten the adapter frame in place with sheet metal screws across the bottom and up the sides.
With a sharp knife cut away the screen leaving about 1/2" to overlap the new spline channel.
Using the old screen spline, re-spline the screen into the new channels using the edge of a screwdriver. When you're finished, install the corresponding Pride pet door into the frame using sheet metal screws or pop-rivets.
