Pet Door Products: Pet Door In the Glass

Looking for dog doors for glass doors? The best way to install a pet door through the glass on your existing sliding or French door frame is by switching it out for a Pet Door Products glass replacement! The new tempered, dual-pane glass will have a pet door installed at the bottom, and you’ll be able to use your sliding glass door like normal. A glass professional will be needed to come measure your current glass and later swap it out for the new glass that has the pet door. The pet door that is used is the energy efficient Endura Flap, which is an insulating, flexible flap perfect for extreme weather. The Endura Flap Pet Door is extremely durable and carries a 15 year warranty. The glass unit is backed by a 10 year warranty.

How to Order

  1. First, check that one of the installation options is suitable for you. They are:

    • 2 Panel Slider: Installation in either side of the inside track panel. When using the center-post side, it is important to ensure the screen will not interfere with the action of the pet door flap.

    • 3 Panel Slider: Installation may be in either side of the inside track slider of jamb of the 3rd panel. The same concern applies to the screen as stated above.

    • 4 Panel Slider: Installation may be on either side of either inside track panel

    • French or fixed panel door (sidelight)
  2. Please review our Measure Your Pet guide to choose the correct flap size for your pet. This unit will have a minimum step over of 3 ¾”. This is in addition to any step over your frame has already, so take this into account!

  3. Hire a local glass company (glazier) to measure your current glass. The glazier will disassemble your sliding glass door (a very easy job for them) to get the width, height, and thickness.  They should also be able to let you know if you have any LoE coatings and get exact dimensions for any grids located inbetween the panes if applicable. After the measurements are taken they will then put everything back together and re-install it for you.

  4. Next you will purchase the product on this site by selecting the options in the drop downs. You don't need to enter all the specific dimensions just yet, we will email you with the form to fill out after your order is complete.  Be sure to include a good email for us to send that to.

  5. You will need to fill out form and send it back to Your order will be on hold until we receive your dimensions.

  6. Once we get the form and the order, after verifying everthing is correct, we send it over to the factory to be fabricated.

  7. When completed we ship the unit directly to your glass company and they would set up a time with you to come out and switch out the glass units.

You are responsible for payment to the glass shop for the measurement and install, as we do not set up the installation.  This would be a separate charge you would pay the installer directly, and usually runs from $150 - $200.

More Important Info

  • Click here for more information about LoE glass.
  • The vinyl framing is available in dark tan, light tan, and white. The pet door framing comes only in white.
  • This is a custom order so all sales are final (and why we strongly recommend you hire a pro).
  • Glass that is 37" x 77" or smaller is considered "standard" size.
  • Glass that is larger than 37" x 77" and up to 45" x 90" square inches is considered "oversize".
  • You can get an approximation of your actual glass size right now by measuring the "daylight" dimension (just what you can see) and adding 3/4" in both dimensions. This is NOT accurate enough to order the product, but allows you to be able to get a rough estimate on the costs.
  • Allow 3-4 weeks plus transit time for delivery.

This was very expensive. I never t thought Id spend so much on a dog door, but man was it worth it. I have the freedom to go in and out as well as my dog. It is a definite 5 star door. I would purchase again and again for every home. The quality of the flap is amazing and it insulates so well from the outside temps.

5 5 Hated waiting but worth it.

I am impatient so the wait killed me ( 4-5 weeks) but when i received the door it was exactly what i was told itd be. It is the solid dual pane glass with an amazing Endura dog door in it. It stayed shut in our storm we just had here in NC. It isnt too loud when it shuts and it is amazing quality. My glazier also did an awesome job at installing it as well. I couldnt be happier with this neither could my dogs.

    5 5 What I needed forever!

I was so TIRED of trying to squeeze past my dog door panel so I decided to buck up and purchase this door. I was so nervous at first because the price and what if it came wrong ect. It took about 5 weeks, but when it came it was absolutely perfect. It insulates well and is extremely great quality. My dog is happy, im happy. I highly recommend this door to everyone.

5 5 Expensive and lengthy process but worth it

Longer process (mine took closer to 5 or 6 weeks before I got it) and the pricing was higher than I would have liked, but for what I got I'm happy. I was tired of squeezing past the slider insert and this fixed my problem.

  • Great review by Rose
    5 5 Great

I got tired of my panel taking up room out of my exit and entry so I decided to spend the money and go with this product. It cost a lot, but the result was so worth it. I no longer have to worry about having my dinner parties and having to take the panel in and out. The view is back. There is no longer a huge metal panel in my sliding door frame. The glass was nice, I cannot tell a difference from my other glass panel. I also love the dog door. It seals shut so nicely and it is made of really good material so the quality is noticeable. Overall I am glad I took the jump and spent this money for this product.

  • Great for convenience and durability review by Court
5 5 Great for convenience and durability

This glass panel was absolutely amazing!! When you have a sliding glass door and you put a panel in, you lose half of your exit and entrance and it obstructs your view. This company made me a glass panel with the Endura flap dog door installed and I could not be happier. The Endura flap is one of the best flaps on the market. It is slightly noisy when it shuts but the magnet strength is so strong its to be expected. This flap stays shut in the high gusts of winds we have and the storms. It keeps my air conditioning in and my heat in and It is made of great quality. The glass is dual pane which is very insulating and efficient as well. The turn around time was about 3-4 weeks which is not bad for a well built piece. Overall I am very happy with this door and panel and the fact I can lock my sliding door and have the full exit and entrance!!!

What is an "In the Glass" Pet Door?

Pet Door Guys

products offer Endura Flap™ exclusively. Here's why -

Click below to expand:

No, when you purchase a “through the glass” dog door it comes with the glass panel only. The framing of the sliding door is NOT included in the purchase. Since this unit will replace your current glass inside your framing, there will be an installation process you or a hired professional will need to follow.  As well as filling out the appropriate order form.

Through the glass pet doors are a great option!

  1. Check out our Placement Guide which will show you where the pet door should be installed based on your sliding glass situation
  2. Contact a glazier from a local glass shop to measure and install your unit
  3. Measure your pet to get an accurate flap size. The In the Glass unit comes with a 3 ¾” step over in addition to any step over your frame has right now. Take this into account!
  4. Place the order on this page to receive the order form asking for your custom dimensions. Your order is on hold until we receive this order form. The form is emailed directly as you complete your order.
  5. The custom-built glass will be made and shipped with your pre-installed pet door for your sliding glass door.

Only one piece is glass is purchased at a time. This piece of glass will be placed into your patio frame. What makes this option great, is the pet door that comes pre-installed in the glass. So, either your slider or stationary glass will be replaced with an identical piece of glass with a pet door flap and frame installed.

Standard Glass Size has a square inch range of 37" x 77" or smaller. Oversized Glass Size would be any range over 37" x 77" and up to 45" x 90".

As soon as you order an email will be sent asking for the custom dimensions of your glass.

The minimum step over on the through glass units is 3 3/4" plus however tall the frame of the the sliding door is.  So if your frame is 2” tall than the minimum step over would be 5-¾”.  There are 2" or 4" step over add-on options as well, these will add 2” and 4” to the minimum to raise the step over to accommodate taller pets.

If you need help finding a glazier, please visit our Installation Page to find someone in your local area. Please note, not all areas may have a glazier listed.

Your glazier will need to have the thickness, height, width, and whether your glass has LoE coating or not. They will also measure the grids inside the glass (on center).

Originally, there is a 3 3/4" step-over, plus however tall your slider frame is from the floor. Make sure the top of the flap you chose will be at least an inch above their shoulder when installed.

“Through the glass” units can be pretty expensive because you’re getting a custom unit made entirely to your specifications. These items can get expensive because of the quality you are purchasing. You are paying for the quality of materials in the glass, metal, and flap which will save you on AC/heating bills and require less in replacement parts.

It stands for Low-emissivity coating. Low E is applied to the inside of the glass to cut backon the heat and cold transfer. Low outside temperatures combined with moist, warm air inside the house can result in condensation on the inside of any glass window including that in a patio door. Dual pane, low "E" glass can greatly reduce or eliminate this problem. This feature is especially important in cold climates.

The "through the glass" units don't take up the space for you to walk through like a patio panel pet door would.  This is a huge benefit if you have a smaller retrofit slider, as now you don’t have to worry about trying to squeeze through sideways.  Additionally, the "through glass" doggie doors utilize your existing lock, so you will not have to worry about how to go about securing your home.

Through the glass vs. patio panel

In terms of appearances benefits, it also utilizes your current door frame, so you don't have to worry about matching a new frame with your current door and frame. The constantly open sliding glass door will leave you with extra framing blocking your view outside! When in the glass, you do not experience this issue. The Endura Flap Pet Door included is great for insulation so it compliments the dual pane glass in most new sliders.

Through the glass vs. Patio Panel

It takes about 3-4 weeks for these types of pet doors to be manufactured. Then, transit time is about 1-5 business days as it ships from the West Coast. When it ships, we will send a tracking number via email, which will include an estimated delivery date so you can schedule with your installer to come out.

Yes, you can purchase replacement Endura Flaps on the website, it might sound strange, but you will need to purchase the one for the Door/Wall Mount since that includes the hole plugs.  However, they can be a little difficult to replace because you must remove the whole frame in order to get the new flap into place properly.

The flap itself will be coming with a locking cover. This cover slides on the track of the frame to securely prevent access.

You can get a standard sized glass shipped to your house. However, if you have an oversized unit, it is best to ship to your glass company. Additional fees will be charged to your account if an oversized unit goes to a residential location.

The flap and frame assembly is made by, whereas the glass company who made your glass and installed the door is Advanced Windows. They both have a 15 year warranty so if you have issues regarding the pet door itself, please contact at 800-826-2871. For the glass unit you would go directly through Advanced Window at 877-715-6798s.

This item will be placed inside your slider frame. Your lock will still work since it is not replacing your frame or locking mechanism.

We highly recommend hiring a glass company to install and measure for you. Depending on how handy you are it may be possible, however, if the measurements are off this item cannot be returned due to its customization.
