  • The rigid, large door is sensitive to weather review by Michael
5 2 The rigid, large door is sensitive to weather

I first ordered this replacement flap as a true replacement for one that was leaking a great deal of air on the sides. There is no magic solution to that because the newer flap instead of leaking air, gets stuck in an open position because the fibers on the side are newer and stiffer. This is simply an issue with the design as the fibers are new or age. It is also a general problem with this door and flap, which has a lot of surface area and is rigid - a breeze will either blow it open easily or prevent it from closing after use, leaving your house open to weather.

A somewhat better solution occurred to me while doing this - the door frame is thick enough for two of these flaps, so I drilled holes on the interior side and installed the new flap there. With two flaps, there is more resistance to being blown open, although it is still not great.

  • Large Dog Mate Replacement Flap Works and Lasts review by Richard
5 5 Large Dog Mate Replacement Flap Works and Lasts

The large cat mate flap is the same as the large dog mate flap but unlike the picture, it has 2 magnets. Picture actually shows medium flap with one magnet. Previous flaps have lasted for about 3 years. With our 4 Border Collies, they tend to be rough on the doors, going through them at full speed. Sometimes two try to get out at the same time. So the flaps have to be sturdy.

5 5 quick fix, dog door up and running again

Our dogs have a habit of running full speed through the door, so after about a year since install one of the little plastic knobs in the upper corners broke. Found this replacement door online, received it quick and just popped it back in. The dogs have full control over their comings and goings again. All are happy.

5 5 Excellent service and product

After many years of use, the flap cracked and then the hinge broke. I was pleased to find that it could be replaced with it replacing the whole window mount door. The door replacement arrived within a few days of placing the order. I'm very happy with the product and the service.

5 4 Cheaper than new door

Original flap lasted quite a few years, the fuzzy sides just started letting cold in. Thought I was going to break the frame by bending it to get the one side to pop in, but I didn't and everything works good still.

I was long overdue for a replacement. With the proper care and no cat bullets ripping through the flap at inhuman (or speeds, the flap can last quite a while!

  • Long Lasting review by Jeannine
    5 5 Long Lasting

The original door lasted 10 years and 4 cats until one of the hinges broke. That's pretty decent in this day and age of stuff breaking apart soon as you buy it. It's a little tricky installing new one; you will keep thinking you're going to break it., as it's not very flexible.Be patient and work it out.

  • Thumbs down to Dogmate Dog Doors review by mikisdad
5 1 Thumbs down to Dogmate Dog Doors

I've owned one of these for several years. It is poorly designed. The weatherproof strips supplied are flimsy and awkward to fit and don't fully cover the sides of the door opening.

Worst of all, the door is made with two prongs - one at each side of the top of the door. Flexing the door allows these to slip into holes so that the door can swing. That seems fine, except that the prongs are too short.

My Belgian shepherd (around 25kg, doesn't walk daintily through the door - she takes a running leap and flies through it in an attitude similar to pictures of superman. The result has been that on several occasions she has knocked the door flap right out of its mounting.

I tried to take this matter up with the manufacturers but first of all they were almost impossible to locate and secondly they were not interested, telling me that the door couldn't be knocked out if it was fitted correctly. In other words, blaming me for what is a fault in design. The door is fitted exactly as they instructed but the company just wasn't interested in even discussing the matter.

The polycarbonate of which the flap is made is also unsuitable for a door exposed to weather and considerable sunlight. Eventually, with being knocked out so often and with the harsh sunlight we have here, the door cracked across the middle. At that time I was unable even to locate a spare door, at any price, and so I replaced it with a steel rod to which I fixed clear PVC sheet, cut to size.

This measure has proved to be a far more adaptable one than a replacement door and is easily replaced if and when necessary. Its flexibility, however, makes it far less susceptible to damage from a flying dog - and conversely, far less likely to damage that dog. The iron rod I cut to be around 10 cm longer than the width of the original flap and prongs and now I have no more exploding doors flying across the garden.

My advice to anyone who has a really active dog is to choose your dog door carefully. I wouldn't recommend any door with a rigid flap and be sure that the attachment at the top is secure.

    Editor's note:
An excellent pet door alternative that has a secure rod at the top with a flexible flap would be the Endura Flap Pet Door!

This is the only place where I can get replacement flaps that fit. I have a 70 lb. dog and she zooms through the door, so they last maybe for a year before she cracks them.

    5 5 Dog door flap

I was so glad to find a replacement flap, most dog doors do not offer that and you have to replace the whole frame/mount. I have big dogs and the door system has held up well. The problem with the last flap is I have a huge puppy and you know what puppies like to do. The problem was not with the system but with my huge puppy, four months old and 100 pounds, I think he thought it was a toy.8) He has manners now and goes in and out with ease, and I would recommend this system, plus in all weather it does close. We have severe weather here in Kansas, drastic winters and summers.

  • good fix review by in-out cats
    5 4 good fix

We couldn't find the exact replacement on our flap that had worked well for several years. To change a whole door would have required a whole new set of cutting. The price for this replacement part seemed fair. At first there was just a slight glich, in that the new part seemed to have an extra ridge which caused it to stay frequently open. After a few weeks everything has resolved with either the old or the new parts accommodating each other.

To Replace the Flap in a Catmate or Dogmate Pet Door

For the easiest installation, we recommend removing the frame from the door, wall, or panel first to allow the flap hinges the flexibility to fit into the proper holes. Once the frame has been removed, place one of the hinges into its proper hole and use a screwdriver to slightly bend out the frame so that the second hinge pops in on the remaining side. Installing the replacement flap with the frame in place limits the overall flap flexibility, resulting in a more difficult installation process.

For additional help, refer to the installation video tutorial in the ‘Videos’ tab.

No, they only come with a tint.

There are not replacements that would work for this door, so you would have to replace the entire pet door with a model that had the flexible vinyl.

It is easiest if you remove the frame from the door/wall/panel, then put in one hinge and use a screwdriver to slightly bend out the frame so that the second hinge pops in. We do have a really helpful video located under the Videos tab as well.

On this page we only have the replacements for the manual pet doors. If you needed the replacements for other flaps check here.

Sounds like you might have the new model of Cat-Mate doors, they're the Elite Series. You can also find those replacements here.

Since we just have the flap you would need to contact Ani-Mate, the manufacturer for the tabs.

If you know that it is a manual Cat or Dog-Mate door then you would want to go with the model that is closest. Also when measuring we don't include what is going up past the hinges, so it tends to be a little on the shorter side.

Yep, it will come with the brush stripping installed around the flap.

We don't carry that part here, but you might be able to purchase if directly from Ani-Mate, the manufacturer.

The best way for us to tell is to have you email us a photo with dimensions so we can take a look. Go ahead and send those photos to
