Superior Customer Protection

  • have to replace review by cheddie

None of the cats (my 3, two neighbors') liked this door. The magnets slammed it shut on their tails. I taped over the magnets in the door. Still closed too hard. I finally cut strips off the door to take off all the magnets. I'm lucky we live where the weather is never terrible, but it does let a lot of air in now.

Editor's Note: We suggest adjusting or removing the magnets as opposed to taping over them. The door was designed with this feature specifically for pets that had trouble with the magnet strength.

  • Good but strong magnets review by Justin
5 4 Good but strong magnets

I live in an area with pretty strong winds so I needed a cat door that can handle that. After some research, this turned out to be the best one! Training my cat was a bit difficult because the magnets were so strong so customer service sends me some videos on how to adjust the magnet strength. Although the flap did blow open relatively easily with all of the magnets out, I was able to gradually add them back as my cats got used to it.

5 5 Great quality, great investment

We live in a really cold & windy area, so none of the other cat doors we've tried have really held up except this one. Of course that means much stronger magnets which our cat wasn't used to, but per the company customer service rep's recommendation, we removed a couple magnets for the early stages of training and once our cat was used to the door we put them back in and it was fine. Wish we hadn't spent all the money on those cheap doors and went straight for this one instead!

This pet door is the best you can get. The seal is so secure that wind and water will not move the flap. Since the flap is hinged, it will not wear and break where attached. They are a bit pricey, but worth the money.

    5 5 Great Product!

I did my homework before purchasing this pet door and I'm glad I found this company. I've had two pet doors in the past that didn't last. They had cheap magnetic closures that eventually broke or the flap itself warped from the weather and allowed the hot/cold air in as well as bugs. This pet door, however, shuts securely and doesn't allow anything in except my pets. The clicking of the door when it shuts is quite loud, but you get used to it and it's worth it to have the door shut like it's supposed to. All in all, I think this is a great product and I highly recommend it. Spend the extra money. This pet door is worth it.

Awesome quality product. Buy this, not the cheap ones. You get what you pay for. The only thing I was confused about was I couldn't find the template anywhere. I had to install it that day so we were able to figure it out. When I was filing all the paperwork, I found the template in with the paperwork that said "if you need to returns/exchanges. Since I had no interest in that, I never opened that paperwork...so look through all the paperwork before starting whether needed or not.

    5 4 Good door

This is a very good door. It works well and seals up well. The noise that so many folks talk about is a non-issue. My only problem is the directions have you cut a hole that is really too big; it works but leaves a lot of room for error.

  • Worth every cent review by Denmo
    5 5 Worth every cent

This has been the best dog door we have had. We installed it about 9 months ago and had no problems with the instructions, or final installation. We did make a slight adjustment to the recommended sill height to accommodate our black lab, but it was no problem.

The best feature of the Endura pet-door is the magnetic sealed edges on the flap. Compared to the standard flapper door we have had in the past, this kept the cold air drafts down to a minimum in the cold northwest winter. And, the sound of the magnets 'clicking ' as they attach to the frame when the dog goes through is no bother, and reassuring.

Even though this is a bit pricier than the standard flapper, I would strongly recommend the Endura flap pet door; even over the signal type flaps that require a sender/receiver to be attached to a dog collar. With a regular collar/dog tag and electric fence collar, she has enough stuff around her neck to contend with.

  • Does exactly what it claims! review by The Ranch
5 5 Does exactly what it claims!

I was concerned by the reviews that stated that the unit was noisy when the flap closed. This is installed in the wall of a bed room and I found it no worse than the big box store units with the advantage of not blowing open and letting in dirt and leaves that used to coat the floors and furniture. When we move to another home we will be back for another!

40 years of pet doors, and this is the ONLY one i have bought multiple time for multiple houses. Well made, easy to install, good directions, STURDY and not an eyesore. (caveat: we ordered the "through the wall version" but received the skinnier "through a door" version. But left it sitting for 4 months before we went to install it. Figuring we had passed the point of exchanges, we managed to install it with some minor work arounds. So check the contents of your box even if you are going to wait to install it :-)
The magnets are strong, but you can remove one, some or all of them to adjust to personality of your pets

I've bought three of these so far for three different houses, and they perform better than anything else out there. Initially they may seem expensive. but they are actually cheaper than other doors because they last so much longer you end up saving lots of money (and the hassle of replacing failed parts) in the long run.
    Good customer service too.

  • Quality Door, Easy to Install review by Nim and Ty's Mom
5 5 Quality Door, Easy to Install

I bought the Patio Pacific Endura Flap door in small to insert into a plywood piece to put into a window for my cats to use to enter at their own will into and out of a small cat-fenced area behind my house. The door works great, installation instructions were fairly straight fwd (there is a page here which helps you figure out the plywood installation as well), customer service was quick and friendly, pricing was fair for the quality of the door, and the sizing was spot on. The small door works great for cats (I do not have any wide load obese kitties, but I do have a few tall, thin ones, and they fit through just fine). The door is well designed, the magnets hold it closed enough for weather, but not enough to deter the cats once they figured out how to push it open. They were easy to train, taking only a few days to get the picture that they could enter and exit as they pleased. The flap is also flexible, and does make it easier for the cats to push on it, as well as peace of mind for me, knowing it will be hard for them to get injured by pulling back and getting caught. The only change I would have made might be to try a double flap next time, as there is a small amount of airspace at the bottom of the flap in the corners--so there is a bit of air exchange, which negates the hope I had for this to be a 'winter' door as well, since for us it opens directly to the outside, not to a garage or other insulated space. BTW, it also came with all hardware, very good instructions, and some extras, like treats for training (dogs), and some wipe on plastic protectant/sunscreen for the flap. Overall, I was very pleased with this purchase, and also with this company and my experience with them. I would look them up again for any more pet doors in the future. Fall 2013

  • LOVE this door review by DoodleMom
    5 5 LOVE this door

This pet door is everything it claims to be! Was unsure as to whether we needed the double flap or the single, as we live in Missouri. Based on ratings, I chose the single flap and it keeps the weather out perfectly! Have yet to go through the winter, but it worked fabulously through the hot and humid summer. We've also had no problems with the fall rain storms. Great product! Highly recommend!

5 5 Keeps the rain out

We live in Portland and installed this on the storm door that gets hit directly from the rain, and it seals great.

We bought this for three cats. The two large males use it regularly without problem, however the more timid (and smaller) female finds it hard to open. It does take a little force to push the flap open due to the magnet on the bottom.

ed note - Please contact customer service about how to reduce the magnet strength at the bottom.

5 5 The door is great.

At first our little guy was intimidated by the sound of the magnets and it took him a day or two to get used to pushing through them. Now it s nothing he thinks about .... Just flys in and out all day long. An unexpected benefit was that a critter tried to come in and the magnet noise alerted him... Needless to say that critter is likely not going to try again!

5 5 Works perfect - right out of the box

I'm not a handy person by a long shot, so I had some real trepidations about slicing a hole in a perfectly good door.

However, used the template provided, followed directions which were reasonably well written, reviewed the video.

Installation was a breeze and went perfectly. Fits like a glove. Bought some color matched paint, painted it to match door color,it looks like a factory job, LOL

After a bit of finessing, the dogs are using it, at will. So everyone is happy.

Product is a bit pricey, but I guess you get what you pay for.

    5 5 Great door

I looked for a long time searching for a door that wouldn't leak air, could handle a stiff wind and that our cats could use. I bought the single flap model with flap dimensions of 8x15.

I was initially concerned because of small gaps at the sides near the bottom but a while after it was installed the gaps closed up. Perhaps it took a set during storage. Our cats eventually got accustomed to the greater effort needed to open it and are quite happy with it now. It is directly exposed to the weather and faces west and has proven to be very wind and weather resistant.

The flap is a 2-layer design with an air space between so even the single-flap model insulates very well. Ours is installed in a basement wall and we live in upstate NY.

I have only positive things to say about this dog door. We live behind a field and it can get a bit windy here. The flap on the lower quality door we had would blow open all the time. 5 5 Very Satisfied

We hesitated for a while because of the cost of the Endura flap, which included significant cross-border shopping fees. In the end, we simply could not find a product in Canada that seemed as well-designed as the Endura Flap. We live in a cold and windy climate and need a 4-season door.

The door has now been in use for 3 months (Nov - Feb), including several days that hit -30C. On those days, we could not feel any draft or cold when we held our hand a few inches from the door. In short, the door has far exceeded our expectations. It is a great product, and well worth the investment.

  • Great product but doesn't last forever review by David Swingle
5 4 Great product but doesn't last forever

I have been very happy with the Endura flap door performance purchased three years ago, until now. The flap material has become hard due to Missouri winters and the "bellows" section on one side is no longer flexible which now leaves a 1/4" gap on one side. Just ordered a replacement flap for 50 bucks with shipping. The warranty does not provide for advance replacement and being doorless for a week or two is not a workable solution for me.

ed. note Our warranty program now offers a 'loaner' flap. The customer pays the shipping cost for the flap--typically very low--and makes a refundable deposit for the loaner. This program avoids the problem of being door-less while the repair / replace warranty is being accomplished.

5 5 Patio Pacific Endura Flap Pet Door is Well Worth the Money!!

I've had the large size Patio Pacific Endura Flap Pet Door for four years in the Arizona heat. The door still works perfectly, no warpage, no cracks. The single flap door works well to keep out the hot desert heat in the summer and the magnets keep the door closed even during monsoon storms. It always makes a good tight seal when it shuts. The door is a little noisy when it flaps closed because the strong magnets grab the bottom plate on the second pass. After a couple of days we were accustomed to the sound and don't even notice it anymore.. I would certainly purchase this door again if I ever move to a new house.

Just an update to my previous review.... The last week has been windy as he**. 5 5 Worth every penny

Like most people, I rarely write a review unless it is to complain and warn people not to buy something that's crap, but I'm so happy I bought one of these doors I wanted to share my experience. I tried 2 other doors before I found this one. I had problems with the wind blowing them open. They weren't even close to satisfactory. I tried different ways of blocking the wind and getting the flaps to stay shut. Huge waste of time. I wish I had bought this door to start with. As soon as I took it out of the box I knew I made the right decision. It is obviously very good quality and solid. I got the single flap and find it to close very securely. I thought I might be borderline for needing the dual, but single is just fine...without even adding the optional extra magnets. The other doors I tried were Medium size, so I just got the medium for this one, too. I should have paid more attention to the info on choosing the size because I think I might have been able to use the small one, due to the high profile shape. The price may seem a little hard to take, but when you see what you get, I feel like I got a great value for my money.... Especially after messing with the other doors I tried first. If I ever have a need to buy another pet door, I will just get one of these. No need to shop around. It sure is satisfying to fork out the money and end up with something that actually works like they say it will.

Endura Flap™ Door Mount

Congratulations on your purchase of one of the finest pet doors made, featuring the exclusive Endura Flap™.

Installation Instructions For Single and Double Flap Models

For single flap door mounts:

1 flap frame 1 trim frame

4x 1 ¾" (4,4 cm) screws

For double flap door mounts:

2 flap frames 4 tunnel pieces

1 tube of silicone • 4x 2 ¾" (7,0 cm) screws

For both single and double flap door mounts:

1 installation template 8 hole plugs • 4x 2 ¼" (5,7cm) screws

Pencil • Drill with ⅜" (9,5 cm) drill bit

Level • Jigsaw or reciprocating saw

Phillips head screwdriver

Measuring Tape

Please read instructions & notes thoroughly before beginning installation.

1. If you have not yet measured your pet, watch this video to ensure the pet door will work: www.EnduraFlap.com/measure

If possible, remove the door from its hinges using a screwdriver and hammer to tap out the hinge pins. Lay the door flat for installation. Tape the provided template to the door. The top edge of the cut-out line should be at least 1 ¼" (3,2 cm) above the dog’s shoulders for single flaps, and at least 2” (5,1 cm) for double flaps.

Be careful not to cut too close to the bottom of the door as you may reduce the door’s strength. Level the top edge of the cut-out line.

2. Once you are certain the pet door will work with your door, drill through the holes marked on the template with a ⅜" (9,5 mm) bit. Make sure your drill is kept level and drills all the way through the door.

3. Draw lines to connect the outsides of the holes using a straight edge and/or level, then cut along the line with a saw. If your door is less than 1 ⅜" (3,5 cm) thick, see special instructions on pages 4 & 5.

4. Ensure the weather-stripping is firmly pressed in the groove on both frames.

5A. SINGLE FLAP: Place the trim frame on the outside of the door and the flap frame on the inside. Skip to step 6.

5B. DOUBLE FLAP: Apply silicone along the inside of the tunnel where it mates with the flap frame. Run a bead of silicone around the edges of the tunnel where it will meet the other frame.

Place the inside frame with the tunnel on the inside of the door to sandwich with the other flap frame. Take the exterior frame (without the tunnel) and place it on the outside of the door.

6. Select appropriate screws and insert into the pet door from the inside. Do not fully tighten screws until all four screws are inserted and the pet door is leveled.

1 ¾" (4,4 cm) screws for single flaps in doors 1 ⅜" (3,5 cm) thick

2 ¼" (5,7 cm) screws for 1 ¾" (4,4 cm) thick doors

2 ¾" (7,0 cm) screws for double flaps in doors 1 ¾" - 2 ¼" (4,4 cm - 5,7 cm) thick

 7. Once the pet door is leveled, tighten the screws so that the weather-stripping compresses and the frames touch the door. Do not over tighten.

 8. Use the wooden end of a hammer, rubber mallet, or other non-metal tool to tap in the hole plugs. You can also place a wood block on the hole plug and tap the block with a hammer.

If your door is less than 1 ⅜" (3,5 cm) thick, the trim frame needs to be cut down so that the door mount can fit into the door.

1.  Remove the foam weather-stripping before taking the frame apart. Set aside. Remove the four screws from the trim frame. Pull apart the trim frame. Do not remove the plastic corners attached to the ends of the trim frame pieces.

2.  If your door is 1" - 1 ⅜" (2,5 cm - 3,5 cm) thick, cut all four trim frame pieces at the first line about ⅜" (9,5 mm) from the edge.

If your door is ½" - 1” (1,3 cm - 2,5 cm) thick, cut all four trim frame pieces at the line about ¾" (1,9 cm) from the edge.

Be sure to support the trim frame (a block of wood a couple inches shorter than the piece you are cutting is a good choice) so that it does not sit on the plastic corners attached to the ends while cutting.

3. Reassemble the trim frame. If necessary, cut the screws from the packet used in step 6 to secure the pet door so they are ½" (1,3 cm) longer than your door thickness. When cutting the screws, first thread a nut on so that after cutting, removing the nut will realign the threads of the screw.

Replace the weather-stripping when you are finished. Make sure the piece stops and ends at the bottom of the frame.

Make sure that you double check the total thickness of the door as the single and double flap models fit different ranges. The single flap fits doors from ½” - 1 ¾” (1,3 cm - 4,4 cm) thick and the double flap fits doors 1 ¾” - 2 ¼” (4,4 cm - 5,7 cm) thick. If you are using the double flap and your door is less than 1 ¾” (4,4 cm), you will need to build out with shims or weather-stripping to get the door to at least 1 ¾” (4,4 cm) in thickness for a tight fit.

The best way to install the pet door is to have it straddle the recessed area of one of the panels. Have the pet door sit on the flat area in the middle, side, and below the recessed panel. The frame will cross the recessed area on the top, so you will be left with a gap. The easiest way to fill this gap is to get battens or shims from a local hardware store, and cut them to fit. When that gap is mostly filled, caulk the remaining areas to seal the doggy door to the surface of the people door. If the space is very irregular you can also use a squishy foam weather stripping, which will compress down for a tight fit. When finished, use caulking to seal the door.
