My dog bent the old rod trying to break in the house when the panel was closed. The new rod went in easily.

For Panels/Sashes:

Step 1: Take the panel or sash out of the sliding door or window and lay it down on its edge.

Step 2: Find the screws closest to the bottom of the panel. In the sash they will be closest to the edge near the pet door flap. Remove them using a #2 Phillips head screwdriver.

Note: The holes may be covered up with the foam weather stripping. If this is the case, measure in about ¾” from the edge and peel back just a small section. This should uncover the holes.

Step 3 (for panels only): If you have a patio panel, you will also need to loosen the two screws that go into the cross piece below where the glass starts. Loosen them about ¼ turn each. These holes are located about ⅝” down from the bottom edge of the visible glass above the cross piece.

Step 4: For the patio panel, you will need to pull out the flap assembly by sliding it out of the bottom of the patio panel. For the Thermo Sash you do not need to remove the assembly. You will only need to remove the side piece to uncover the rod.

Step 5: Now if you look at the side of the flap assembly, you will see the silver rod sticking out.  Remove it, while holding the flap steady in place, then slip the new one in.

Note: For panels, make sure that it is sticking out evenly on both sides so that it will not interfere when putting the doors back together.

Step 6: Slide the panel assembly back in place and replace the bottom screws and tighten the other ones. For the sash, put the side channel back on and replace the screws.

Step 7: Reinstall the pet door in the slider or window.

For Door/Wall Mounts:

Step 1: To access the rod, you will need to uninstall the pet door frame.  First drill out the hole plugs to uncover the screws on the interior frame.

Step 2: Unscrew the screws and remove the door frame.

Note: If there is caulking or sealant, you will have to remove it to take off the door.

Step 3: Turn the flap frame on its side. Using a flat head, pry off the small gold-colored retaining ring that is on the end of the rod. This only needs to be done on one side for you to be able to remove the rod.

Step 4: From the opposite side, pull the rod out of the top, holding the flap in place.

Step 5: Slide the new rod in through the frame and flap.

Step 6: Put the new retainer rings on both ends, making sure that the teeth are bent facing out and away from the pet door.

Step 7: Reinstall the pet door frame and make sure to re-caulk and seal around the frame.

Step 8: Put in the new hole plugs (sold separately) using a rubber mallet or hammer with a piece of wood to avoid scratching the pet door.

Q: Does the Endura flap replacement come with the rod?

A: The rod must be purchased separately, as 99.9% of the time the rod will be re-usable even if your pet tears up the flap. Endura Flap Replacement rods can be purchased on our website.

Q: What is the difference between the door/wall and panel/sash option?

A: The door/wall flap rods will come with retainer rings and hole plugs. The panel/sash rods do not need these extra parts.
