(ed. note: We are currently working on a redesign for the threshold. The new ones will be plastic making them a little quieter and the full width of the flap.)

We have had to order and install multiple doors because of chewing. I think this could be prevented by extending the metal across the bottom to prevent a starting point for the chewing which seems to be the corners. As suggested we did apply a gel with pepper to help prevent but this also prevent the seal from working in cold weather.

5 3 Great part but directions missing crucual step

Three things to keep in mind if you need to replace a flap that will save you a lot of hassle, two trips to Home Depot and a leaky flap:

1: Before ordering, visually check that the flap hanger rods are not bent. It might not be obvious without close inspection. They are cheap (less then $5 each) so it may better to order them just to be safe. I ended up getting stainless steel rod the correct size at Home Depot and cutting it to size.

2: Be aware you might need to also need to replace the weather stripping. A second trip to Home depot with door in tow found the right size

3: MOST IMPORTANTLY: The directions miss an absolutely crucial step: When installing you MUST make sure that the magnets in the flap and sash bottom align correctly. If you install the replacement flap backwards the magnets in the bottom of the flap and the sash will repel instead of attracting and you will get a gap. If this happens simply turn the flap around and you should see everything work much better. Found this out after much head scratching about why both flaps in my double-flap installation left 1/4 inch gaps and bottom flap would not seal.

  • LOVE IT review by dk

    5 5 LOVE IT

I've had my pet door insert for patio doors for about 12 years. This door has had an extreme amount of use and still looks like new. This pet door accommodates 14 dogs (Chihuahua size to German Shephard), so it's pretty much in use the entire day and most of the night, I finally had to replace the Endura Flap because it was chewed on by a puppy and lost the ability to seal tightly. The only regret I have is that I put off ordering a new flap for almost a year, dreading the hassle I thought I was going to have installing the new flap. WRONG! It was very easy to install - fits perfectly. Fast shipping! LOVE this pet door! Don'[t know what I'd do without it !!!

This is a nice heavy door but this replacement one is not closing all the time tightly. Very often I look at it and it has not sealed up evenly so there is definitely some airflow going through it. I wish it sealed up evenly like the original one I received with the door.

    5 4 Great door

This is a great door and very well insulated. We live in Wisconsin where it is cold and can be windy. The dogs had no problem learning the double door system. We did have a problem with my Australian shepherd pup chewing on the door so a friend gave me some freshly dried hot peppers, which I coated on the edges of the door with Vaseline (in winter) and problem solved. The only problem with the actual door is that it is a bit frustrating trying to get the screws in for installation. I would rate the door a 5 and the installation a 3. Overall, it is a great door!

    5 5 Excellent Door

I have had this dog door for 8 years and three German Shepherds and one Alaskan Malamute. The door and its hardware show no age and very little wear. I am very satisfied. Unfortunately, a visiting dog was kept locked outside during dinner and he chewed the door apart. Mistake on our part, he's a known destructive chewer. I replaced the door recently. It seemed rather expensive for all it was but is easily worth it. I know I'll get a few decades use out of it. I've heard questions about wind and leaks. My door faces north in the midwest. It stays shut until the wind gusts over 30mph, then it blows open. When it's closed, it doesn't leak noticeably, and I looked hard for leaks. Excellent product.

would give the door 5 stars if it had spring clips to hold it in place, cleaning door is a pain. If I could remove, clean it and replace it, I would say that would be great.

    5 5 Great Doggy Door

Love this door. We had a rigid flap type door first, and our dogs destroyed it....We had to replace the flap 3 times. it was easy to do but was getting expensive...Then we found this door. It's awesome. Someone in the reviews here said they can't block the dogs out from the house from the inside only the outside??? Dude your dog door is in backwards, because when we slide the solid partisan in the track FROM THE INSIDE it works great. Nothing is gonna come through this door. Now replacing the flap on this door is a pain. As stated in another review here, you do need to take the entire dog door apart to replace it. Not a huge deal, just a bit time consuming....Overall a wonderful door. We have 6 large dogs all over 70 lbs and we have the XL door. It's great....

    5 4 good quality

Good quality and lasts for quite some time. I have the sash window version. My only complaint is that you have to take the entire unit out of the window and take it apart to replace the flap. Seems there ought to be an easier way to do this!!! Since my windows are slightly off in size, it was hard to install the first time around and certainly no easier the second time around.

    5 5 Bought flap as a replacement

I bought this flap as a replacement after the dogs chewed up the original. I found you can't block the door on the inside to keep the dogs out. Best to block the door on the outside.

Overall a great product. Well made and seals against drafts amazingly well. The flap was easy to replace as well.

5 5 Worth the effort - Excellent door

I have the patio door model. It is simple to remove the unit and replace the flap. I installed it the same way I originally installed the flap. It was a me, myself and I job. If an old lady (70) can do it anyone can! This is the best doggy door I have ever had and I have tried several. I have large dogs. Rhodesian Ridgebacks weighing between 90 and 135 pounds. The original flap in the HOT Texas weather lasted 2 years. Dogs never had a problem with it and my cats can get in and out also.

5 5 Easy install and well made

Original flap lasted 2 years with 3 large dogs. Probably would have lasted longer but my last rescue was spooked by the magnets clicking tight, so I removed them for the summer while he got used to running in and out with the other dog. In the fall I ordered the replacement for winter weather. Yes, you do have to take the insert out of the door to replace the flap, but the quality and fit of the pieces is well worth it. After a few times he was running in and out just like he did without the magnets. Wonderful product for sliding glass doors!!!

5 1 Terrible for Sash Window

The directions that come with the replacement flap are only for the "Quick Panel" version. If you have the quick panel version, definitely buy this replacement flap.
But, if you have the sash window, think twice - the instructions are horrible.

5 3 Excellent durability, hard to replace

The door and flap are very sturdy, and the first one lasted three years, with two big dogs running in and out all the time. Very, very weatherproof, too.

My problem came when I had to replace a chewed up flap. It took two people over an hour, because you have to remove the entire door and take apart the whole section in order to install the replacement flap.

    5 5 Wonderful product

We bought a Pet Door several years ago & loved it so much we bought a second one for the downstairs door as well. My puppy has chewed a couple of the flaps off (which we expected), however, replacement was pretty simple & would never be without one again. My sister-in-law has a cheaper pet door and our Patio Pacific is so much better quality. The flap seals much better, however, I would love to see a metal flapper as an option in the future. Definitely recommend.

ed. note. - We considered metal. Problem is safety. When a pet exits partway, is spooked and pulls back suddenly, you want the flap to give. There are injuries every year in exactly this circumstance.

    5 5 Amazing

Bought the door for my 5 Jack Russel's around 2006. Recently my husband locked them outside and they chewed up the flap door. Imagine my delight when instead of buying the whole door I only had to replace the flap. Simple to re install and the dogs are back in business. Quality is incredible. If you could only see them running out that door one after the other - you would wonder how the flap lasted this long in the first place. A definite case of you get what you pay for. Money well spent on this terrific product. Would buy it all again and recommend to anyone looking.

Q: Does the Endura flap replacement come with the rod?

A: The rod must be purchased separately, as 99.9% of the time the rod will be re-usable even if your pet tears up the flap. Endura Flap Replacement rods can be purchased on our website.

Q: Why is the double flap Endura door 1" shorter than the single flap version?

A: The single flap and double flap sizes are identical, although the space available for the pet to go through changes. The only reason we say the double flap is shorter is because you have 2 flaps that will hit each other as the pet is going in or out. Since the flap is about ⅞” thick when the first hits the second you lose that amount of space in the top. This image may give you a better understanding of the situation we are explaining.
