Ideal "Original" Cat Doors

Ideal "Original" Cat Doors are framed in white plastic with a white plastic locking cover. The vinyl flaps are clear allowing your kitties to see when the locking cover is in place. The self-framing adjustment range is 1 1/4" to 1 3/4" which covers all standard dimension interior and exterior doors.

Since there is no wall kit available, you can have your handy person build one for you for through wall installs.

'Ideal' and 'Perfect' are two different trade names for this same product.

Tools Required:

Tape Measure

Level

Hammer and Awl (Nail)

Drill and ⅜” Drill Bit

Saw

Phillips Screwdriver

Safety Goggles

  • 1. Determine template placement- After measuring your pet from feet to shoulder and add at least 2”. This measurement will serve as the lowest place the top of the template should be in order to make it comfortable for your cat.
  • 2. Take a measuring tape and measure up from the bottom of the door and make a line at the number you got from the first step.
  • 3. Tape the slide/template in place, with painter’s tape, and use a pencil to draw around the outside edge of slide/template onto door. Make sure that the bottom cut line is at least 4” from the bottom of the house door to protect the integrity, and the top of the template is even with or above the line from the pet measurement.
  • 4. Use a nail or awl to mark the four inside edges where you will drill the pilot holes.
  • 5. Take off the slide and drill out the four ⅜” diameter holes in each corner of the cut out line. This will help you get the saw blade in and start a clean cut.
  • 6. Then use a saw, and beginning with one of outside edges of the starter holes on the top, carefully cut along the pencil line all the way around. Remove the cutout section.
  • 7. Install the outside frame first (no flap) into opening from outside side. Make certain frame is flush with door surface.
  • 8. Place inner frame (with flap) into opening from inside of door, hold in place, then install screws and tighten until snug. Do not over tighten.
  • 9. Caulking is recommended around the outside frame.
