The SureFlap DualScan works with all identification microchips supplied by your vet and SureFlap RFID collar tags.

The SureFlap DualScan Cat Flap

The DualScan Cat Flap controls which animals enter your home as well as which animals exit. In other words, only cats with a microchip that the Sureflap is programmed to open for will be able use the DualScan Cat Flap to come inside AND go outside. It is compatible with all common microchips available in North America (test before installing) and also works with SureFlap RFID tags worn on a collar. However, if your pet is already chipped no need to pay extra for the collar key.

Haven’t had your cat micro-chipped? You should get it done. If you cat is ever lost—and it does happen-- any vet that he/she is brought to will scan for a micro-chip. If a microchip is found, your cat can be brought home safe and sound. If not.... the odds are very slim. Incidentally, if your cat was chipped some time ago, it may have been a 'free floating' one, in which case, the door may not sense it and you may need to get the cat re-chipped. Newer chips have barbs on them and keep in place. Incidentally, SureFlap has an RFID disc available that may be used while you're waiting for the vet. Just don't use the two, chip and disc, together or you'll confuse the pet door.

SureFlap is compatible with all commonly used microchips (it is not included with the pet door and must be purchased from your vet and implanted at a scheduled office visit).

Check with your vet if you have a question about the type of microchip you are using. The programming process is extremely simple! Your cat walks through, the door senses the microchip and remembers it.

The DualScan Cat Flap can remember up to 32 different pets. There's a special 'safety mode' that can be set to allow entry for indoor-only cats who accidentally get outside through a different door or window. Because this cat flap controls access in both directions, it is also raccoon proof.

The unit is operated by 4 AA Batteries, so there's no need for nearby access to wall power. Typical battery life is 6 months so we recommend changing them twice a year to be safe. When the batteries need to be replaced there is an indicator light that will alert you. The door will continue to operate, however you should replace them as soon as possible because once they run out the door will revert to the locked position, stranding any pets outside.

In addition to the electronic mode, there is a four-way locking capability that overrides all programming.

May be installed in a variety of door types, walls, or through single or double pane glass. There are special accessories--wall liners and mounting adapters--to allow installation in walls, single, double or triple-glazed windows. Note that for double-glazed windows the glazier must use a non-metallic spacer bar around the hole for correct performance.

One last caution: For metal skin doors, security doors, metal garage doors, UPVC coated metal doors you will need to purchase the mounting adapter. This is usually required to ensure the pet door functions properly with the initial installation especially when mounted through metal.

Like that this door lets my cat out, but keeps my kitten in the house. I'll eventually let her out, but not until she's older. it was easy to program and uses my adult cat's microchip to let him in and out, so a collar (which can get lost) is not needed.

  • Control who goes in AND out! review by Sandra
5 5 Control who goes in AND out!

Most doors we've seen only have a microchip control option that goes one way, so we were thrilled when we found this option because we have certain cats that aren't allowed outside, but others that need to roam free. Also pretty raccoon resistant from what we've seen so far.

  • Exactly what we needed review by Kenneth
5 5 Exactly what we needed

When you have multiple cats like we do, you need a duel-scan, chip-reading cat door. 'Normal', healthy cats can come and go as they please, but the door can also be programmed (or reprogrammed) to not allow kittens or sick or older cats to go outdoors while still letting them come INdoors if they happen to get outside on their own. Raccoons, skunks, stray cats and other critters are firmly locked out.

Our neighbors are jealous! Their dog is too large for this cat door.

  • Sure flap dual scan review by RG
5 5 Sure flap dual scan

It took some doing, but now I freaking love this door. I bought this door because coyotes have recently become a problem.

I had to train each cat differently. One was motivated by and out repeatedly with his favorite food. The other (miss independent), she watched the other one, and figured it out, but totally freaked when the lock mechs activated.

There is a custom feature that delays the locking mech for ten seconds. I used that, which helped tremendously. She would jump, but would already be out or in. Now, when she hears the door click in the morning, she knows she can go outside, and runs to it! I no longer have to use the ten second delay option.

Now, if we could only get it with Wi-Fi. Then I could get a text msg from my cats, that they are safely in after the door locks. How cool would that be!

  • sound of unlocking mechanism scares cat review by Emmy
5 3 sound of unlocking mechanism scares cat

The door works fine except my cat is scared by the clicking to lock or unlock, therefore I can't get her to go thru the door by herself, which defeats my whole purpose of having the door. i can physically push her through from the inside out, but she refuses to go in from outside. She's not very food oriented so as of yet I haven't tried to bribe her with food.

I would really like some suggestions because it's starting to look like I spent $200.00 for nothing.

  • Good replacement . . . if your cat isn't skittish review by Hack Attack
    5 4 Good replacement . . . if your cat isn't skittish

We bought this cat door because it was reportedly raccoon-proof. So far, so good on that count, although the raccoon has done some minor damage. Unfortunately, we haven't been able to implement the feature that opens the door only for our cat based on her embedded chip because she gets freaked out by the clicking sound that's made when the flap is released. Also, she's scared by the tunnel when coming in from outside (it goes through our garage wall and is rather long). Overall, it's a great cat door, especially if your cat isn't skittish..

While this is model is a cat flap size, it is best to check your cat's height and width to make sure they will be able to go through this opening. Consider how high you are installing this item as well. You can cut a hole in a piece of cardboard to the flap size and see if they fit.

With its ability to control access of animals from the inside and outside, this does result in it being highly raccoon resistant.

There is not a larger version that can control access from inside AND outside. The larger SureFlap model only controls entry from the outside.

Sure flap dualscan will lock after a few seconds. A cat can tail gate another only if they are right behind, so it is possible depending on cat behavior.

There is a training mode that can enable this feature, where any animal can enter and exit.

This model comes with a few features helping insulate your home. There is weather stripping on the sides of the flap which helps seal your door against the outside environment. With its locking mechanism, it also keeps the flap from opening and closing.

This model does not come with any. They can purchased in a set of two separately on our site here.

No, with the dual scan microchip door you can simply program on chip or key to all the doors you may have in your home.
