The Ideal Cat Flap uses unbreakable clear polycarbonate (others use Plexiglas). The opening is larger than usual and there is a 4-way locking mechanism built in. The bright white frames telescope to allow for a self-framing fit between 11/4" and 13/4" which covers all standard interior and exterior doors. 

The Hefty Kat (sometimes referred to as "Hefty Pet" or "Chubby Kat") continues the same features but in an even larger opening suitable for the very largest cats. The Ideal graphic shows a 20 lb cat going through with what looks to be plenty of extra room. The polycarbonate flap makes this the best choice especially if sharing with a dog who may be less gentle than the cat.

Both of these cat flaps incorporate a "4-way" locking mechanism. Both also are available in a patio panel version at Ideal Patio Cat Door.

We received the pet door today. Thank you for the prompt delivery. The Ideal cat flap was very easy to install. We liked the features as we installed it on an indoor hollow core door and needed a self framing cat flap.
