| The Pet 1
Product Patio Panel is an innovative design consisting of a
standardized panel unit and inter-changeable opening & rise units
allowing for considerable flexibility for the future.
The glass is dual pane for maximum insulation and noise
reduction values.
Because the panel is separate from the insert unit,
the user who has a change in the size of his pet doesn't need to
purchase an entire new pet door. He/she simply purchases a new insert
with the appropriate size opening at considerably less expense.
Just as important as the opening, of course, is the "rise"
dimension. The Pet 1 Panel includes
a user adjustable rise
design (under license from Patio Pacific Inc) which allows a given
flap opening to accommodate dogs of varying heights. For example, a Jack
Russell Terrier and a Dachshund may both be happy with a medium sized
opening but only if the opening is positioned higher for the Jack
Russell and low for the Dachshund.
At 18", the Pet 1 Product panel is relatively wide. Make
sure you'll have room available to walk out yourself. Likewise, at 11/2"
thick, there may be some sliding glass door tracks too narrow for this
panel. Best to check before buying. However, the manufacturer specifies
it for vinyl tracks which is a significant advantage.
The installation method is unique and doesn't really fit
the 'temporary' and 'semi-permanent' categories. On one hand, it does
not require fastening in your track with screws for a stable
installation. It just 'pops' in. But the gas shock system uses so much
force that it's necessary to fasten a special handle on the adjustment
panel which you then use to pull it down. That handle bolts in place;
and, when you've finished installing the door, it is removed. You need
to keep track of that handle as well as the tools and bolts used to
install it.
Pet 1 Product also includes a "Charley
Bar" for securely locking your sliding glass door. The Charley
Bar included with the Pet 1 Product patio panel has an adjustment range
from 14 1/2" to 25 1/2" which is the distance from the back of the
sliding door to the jamb opposite the pet door. This may or may not be
suitable for your sliding glass door depending upon the width of your
slider. Pet
