The
PetSafe Ultimate Pet Door
is a 'self-framing'
pet door was the most recent addition to the old Johnson Pet-Dor
line (now owned by Radio Systems and using the trade name PetSafe) and
is a major improvement to the old Johnson 'Deluxe' version. The framing
is now a heavy aluminum extrusion, rather than the old stamped aluminum
frame, and the locking cover is steel rather than fiber-board.
Standard frame color is an off-white. There are no
other color choices.
Notice the famous Johnson 'two-part' flap which is
intended to improve the sealing of the flap and resistance to wind. One
consequence is that the larger sizes are more difficult to share with a
cat. Since they are more resistant to wind, they are relatively hard to
push. In the graphic at right the center part of the flap is pushed to
the right and the 'U' shaped piece is pushed to the left in order to
show the two parts separately. It looks a bit strange at first as the
flap would never move like this on its own.
The 'self-framing' adjustment range is for doors from 1
1/4"-1
3/4" thick (most interior doors
are 13/8"; most
exterior doors are 1
3/4").
This door may be installed in a 'framed out' wall but
is not recommended for a 'double flap' wall-thru.
The XLarge and Large sizes have been discontinued but
replacement flaps are still available - see "Replacement Flaps" below. |
