How high off the floor should my dog door be?
Generally, every pet door should at least 3" off the floor to maintain your door or wall's integrity. The distance between the bottom edge of your pet door and the floor is called the step-over, and is an important aspect of determining how big of a pet door your dog requires. A manual pet door is pretty easy for smaller pets to use, even in the larger flap sizes. If you do not want your cat to go through, you would need to look at an electronic pet door options, such as the High Tech Power Pet, or the PetSafe Electronic Smart Door.
I received my notice that the door had a tracking number after a couple days. Then 3 days later it finally shipped. This is a nice door but not $880 nice. Maybe a $200 dollar door. Hale is making a killing on profit on these!! For example, the security door that comes with it is plastic and not metal. Why? I could easily push it in with my foot. If someone wanted to break into your home this would be an easy access. My security door loads from the top. I'm not sure why there is not a notch to keep the door in the track so you don't have to completely remove it. You have to take it out and set it someplace else. They include carpet to put inside the door but no adhesive so there is another expense to this thing. For the price I expected MUCH better. Incredibly overpriced. The most expensive is not always the best option so shop around. It is a nice door but has room for improvement.
Door install was smooth.
The indoor flap rolls up into the back flap causing both flaps to stay open. I hope problem will be solved soon upon contacting Pet doors.
Aside from having to make a hole through a 12-inch thick, concrete wall, installation was easy. One doggy was in an out the first day, older doggy took a couple more days to get used to. Looks seamless, quality material and everyone is enjoying the freedom.
