Number of Flaps:
1 - Single Flap: On inside of wall (same side as locking cover)
2 - Double Flap: One on each side. The included dead-air-space and extra flap add significantly to the already considerable insulation and sealing values.
This works well, and the instructions are clear (which is IMPORTANT). Minor critiques/suggestions for improvement: a) It takes 2 or 3 tries to get the sensitivity setting just right. I wonder if there is a way to code the signals more efficiently to make it less "adjustment sensitive". (I'm a retired wireless engineer). b) Even with the outer and inner frames aligned perfectly, it can be hard to get the screws lined up IN their tubes, not alongside them, by mistake, the tubes are narrow. . c) there is some air leakage through the hinge. I'm planning on added a rubber strip, on the outside frame, covering the hinge, as a draft excluder, over the hinge.
We thought is was a great options at first. Looking back we should have saved our money. We are looking into putting in our 3rd door. I could only program one key. The door would not program second key Buying 3 doors in a dogs lifetime is not a great track record petsafe. I would recommend a standard dog door don't go electronic it doesn't pay
There are only two reasons the door doesn't get a 5 star review. First it eats batteries like candy. If petsafe ever decides to produce a hard wired or ac powered door I'm on it immediately! Second it makes a popping sound when it unlocks. It is pretty loud and scared my dog at first until he got use to it. The other issue with the pop noise is that if the door is anywhere near where you sleep expect to be woke up by the noise. The door functions nicely though and while other companies sell a "Water proof" collar that is horribly over stated, this one truly IS is "water resistant". I am here to tell you that it is in fact water proof. Our dog swims all day, even rides the tube behind the boat without any issues. He is constantly in either the pool or one of the many tanks on the property so don't let that part deter you. If you can deal with buying lots of D size batteries (or want to convert it to AC after the warranty period) and you can deal with a POP of about 20 dB, you'll love this door.
Startup with our cat took some patience but one day he decided this door was the greatest. That was four years ago. Since that time the door has cycled a few thousand times and never had a problem. We have it wired for 120 house current using the battery as a backup. Raccoons cannot get by it and it has no functional problems. This is without a doubt one of our best purchases and gives us the freedom to know that our indoor-outdoor cat can access the outside anytime he feels like it.
I'm not sure what everyone else's problem is but I've had this door for at least two years and it works great. We were having raccoon problems with them getting in through our other cat door and wreaking havoc in our house. Since I installed this door, we've been raccoon free. The only downside is the size of the dongle. I use it for our cat but he's a Maine **** so he can handle the dongle, but for a normal sized cat it would be too large to go around its neck.
