Celebrating All of the Pet Dads In the World This Father’s Day

Father’s Day is just around the corner, which means that it’s time to show a little appreciation for all the fathers in our lives. Whether you have a single dad, a loving grandfather, or a fun adoptive uncle, the third Sunday of June is perfect for showing the big guy in your life how much you appreciate him.

This father’s day is also a great time to appreciate the pet dad in your life. Just like pet moms, pet dads care for their dogs and cats like they are their children. Every family looks different, and if yours includes a dad who dotes on his furry friends, then Father’s Day is the perfect day to show them some appreciation. Check out some of our ideas of how to show a little love to your pet dad this year!

Plan A Special Dad For Dad and His Pet-Friend

Father’s Day is the best day of the year to have a special outing for your dad. So why not include your dog and cat? If you want to take your dad out to a fancy steakhouse, see if they will allow your dog to join you on the patio? Have an outdoorsy dad who likes fishing and hiking? Take your pets with you! Dogs love swimming and hiking, and there are plenty of adventurous cats who would love to explore the great outdoors (on a leash, of course).

If you can’t afford to do anything expensive this year, you can still make memories together by spending personal time with your dog. Offer to take the dog on a walk together and have a personal conversation. Throw a frisbee together, or play with the cat. A special day for your dad doesn’t have to be extravagant to be memorable; it just has to be meaningful.

Make a Pet-Tacular Father’s Day Card

Sometimes the simplest gifts are the most meaningful. Getting a card for your dad is one of the best ways to celebrate father’s day, especially if you cannot be there in person to celebrate with him.

Your pet dad might also enjoy receiving a card from their fur child. Help your dog and cat by making a homemade card for their dad based on how great of a pet parent they are. Make sure to have them sign it themselves with a paw or nose print!

Volunteer to Help Other Pets

If your dad loves animals more than anything, Father’s Day can be a great day is help out other pets in need. You can check out your local pet shelter to see if they allow volunteers to play with the pets, help wash and feed them, or even take them for a walk.

If your local shelter doesn’t allow volunteers, you can always make a day out of buying and donating new supplies for them. Pet shelters are always in need of more food and toys to support the many family-less dogs and cats who are waiting to be adopted (here at PetDoors.com, we support adopting over breeding).

And if there are no pet shelters near you, you can always make a donation to a fantastic pet shelter in your dad’s name. Here is a list of a few pet shelters and rescue organizations that we support.

Get Some Brand New Pet Gadgets

Let’s be real— there isn’t a single dad out there who doesn’t like getting a new gadget.

This Father’s Day, treat your pet dad with the best pet product for their cat and dog. The ClearVis pet gate is great for any dad who loves their dog but wants to keep their fur out of the living room. If you live in a moderate climate, getting an energy-efficient dog door would be great for keeping the air conditioning bill low (and we all know how picky dads are about the AC). And finally, if you have a cat, the Sureflap electronic pet door is an impressive high-tech solution that uses your cat’s microchip to ensure that your cats can only go outside when you want them to.

These are just a few ideas for how to celebrate your pet dad this Father’s day. Do whatever will mean the most for him because, ultimately, you know your dad the best.
