yay
So I am in the army and based in Japan. Fed Ex would not deliver to our base only the usps would. So as all the other panels were too large, this one was able to be delivered to the base as it can be shipped in two separate pieces. The quality of the door is what I expected to see based on the price. I had to modify it it some to make sure it stayed secure in the frame. It is not as insulating in our cold nights, but it does do a great job in the mild weather. I would recommend it to any army or service member living overseas as its an easier door to get shipped and its a great temporary door as well.
Not stable or secure
The middle of the panel flexes a lot. There needs to be another brace or spacer to keep it firmly in place. Also with the insulation between the two surfaces there is a huge gap, so its not latchable.
Or any enclosed space and saveI highly recommend this device.
We have been using one of these for almost 2 years. It allows our two cats to go freely from our home onto our lanai and then allows us to shut things down for the night or wheneverwe want them to stay inside such as if our landscaping or grass is being sprayed with chemicals. I found the unit to be very well constructed and it's measurements to be accurate. I wouldn't be too concerned about trying to secure a sliding door as any burglar worth their salt can pop a sliding door out of its track in two minutes. You should also look at how your current door or doors are aligned since this does require one door to be essentially open all the time it may not allow your other door to open as far as it used to. It wasn't a problem for us but it may be if you need the entire width that you used to have. Again this depends on if you have a 3 foot or 4 foot door also. If you really feel that you need some type of "security" device for the door you can use most any of the devices that are made for sliding doors. I would also not suggest using the foam tape that they give you to fill the gap between the two sliding doors. Are you home and rubber seals that are attached to the door itself are of a higher enough quality that they will mold to most any track and appear to be very durable as I see no degradation after two years of use. Remember, this will be just like having one of your doors partway open all the time and because of that the two doors will overlap approximately 10 to 12 inches and there will be a space in between where air can freely move in and out. Rather than use the the thin foam tape that they gave us we simply purchased a link of the black pipe insulation foam that you'll find at any home Center. If you slice that foam in half you will find that it slides easily into an opening and can be removed easily but seals perfectly. We think this was the best solution for us but if you are opening your doors constantly do you from two will have to be removed and replaced after each opening. While this takes approximately 20 seconds some people may find that an irritation. I purchased an extra flap because I didn't know how long they would last. But after two years our original flap shows no ware other than the normal oil's that your cat will put on the flap when they push it open. Simple cleaning every couple of weeks will take care of that. If you are using this because your cat litter pan smells bad and you're going to stick it out in some location where you cat has to go there to use the cat pan, I'd suggest you do a better job of keeping the cat pan clean instead of this door. This door should be used to give cats freedom to go onto the porch or lanai Or any enclosed space and save you the trouble of having to go to the door every time they want to go out or come in. I highly recommend this device.
mostly satisfied
I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase my only complaint is that my slider does not lock into the pet door. Which leaves me vulnerable to burglars. It would be nice if you fixed this.
Ideal Modular Pet Patio Door is Ideal for Our Purposes
Glad I found this product. It's great. We live on the 4th floor of a small apartment and have a covered patio. We wanted to put the cat's litter on the patio so we don't have to live with the smell. For awhile, we just kept our patio door open a few inches, then it became cold. The Ideal Modular Door was perfect and exactly as advertised. I followed the instructional video and set it up in about 15 minutes. The cat now goes in and out by herself and our place is stink free. Be sure you measure the inside of the track. That is important. This model does not have a lock but we aren't too concerned about a break in via our patio. If I were in a house, I'd have some concerns, even with a lock, though I think some models sold are semi-permanent. The modular doors would be easy enough to bypass. If the door were breached by a burglar they might be able to squeeze through the opening if they were a small-framed person. That said, this is a great product for the price. ed. note. The Modular pet door should have come with an Ideal dead bolt lock. A Charley Bar is another great solution to locking the sliding glass door.
