Step 3 Attach the Hanger to the Frame

- With the pet door in place, mark a pencil line to correspond with the top of the door on the edge of the frame. Remove the pet door panel.

Ideal VIP 150 Patio Pet Door
How to Measure Your Sliding Glass Door for a Pet Door
FAQ
Which flap size should I get? Here is a measurement guide to help you out. |
Does the Ideal VIP 150 have single pane or dual-pane glass? The VIP 150 ideal patio door has dual-pane, with Low-e glass, but the Ideal VPP Panel is single pane for the more climates. |
What type of flap does the Ideal VIP 150 Patio Dog Door come with? The VIP Vinyl Insulated Pet Patio Door comes with the Ideal UltraFlex flap. This three-part flap is made of very strong polycarbonate blocks with flexible hinges between them. The polycarbonate blocks are hollow, so they improve the insulation value, kind of like dual-pane glass. There is plastic weatherstripping around the flap to provide for a good seal as opposed to the Ideal magnetic strip you see on the Fast Fit and VPP panels. |
Can I use the existing lock on my sliding glass door with this VIP Vinyl Insulated Pet Patio Doors? This door can actually mate with an existing sliding door lock. This is specific for vinyl doors, and the VIP will only work if it is semi-permanently installed in a sliding glass door with a track between 1 ½” and 1 ¾” wide. |
Besides the material it’s made from, what makes vinyl framing different from aluminum? Vinyl dog door framing insulates better than conventional metal framing. In addition, with the Vinyl Pet Door for Patio Glass Sliding Doors, you won't get condensation from cold weather. It will also match your existing vinyl sliding glass door, creating a more holistic and professional look. |
What are the extension options for the Ideal VIP 150 panels if the height range is just a little too short? The P height adjustment range (76 3/4" - 78 1/2") has an extension option of 78 3/4" - 80 1/2". The S height adjustment range (92 3/4" - 96 1/2") has an extension option available of 94 3/4" - 96 1/2". You are getting about 2" of additional height. |
Will this fit my door? The VIP 150 is specifically for vinyl sliding glass doors that are 1 ½" - 1 ¾" in track width, and will straddle a bottom rail that is ¾" wide and ¼" tall. If your track is taller, you can use the panel, but deduct the additional height from your full track measurement. |
How does the VIP 150 install into the sliding door? The Ideal Vinyl Pet Door installs semi-permanently. The latches for fastening it in place are hidden inside the jamb, and there are no visible screws and no visible drilling holes. Since you do have to do a bit of drilling and cutting, if you are not a fairly handy person, we would suggest hiring an installer. |
Can I take the door out if I need to? Since this sliding pet door panel has to be screwed into the track, you can remove it and fill in the holes, but it is not a quick uninstall. |
Is there a locking mechanism included on the VIP 150? Yes, this dog door actually has the capability to mate with an existing locking mechanism. You would want to double-check the installation instructions that we have on the site to make sure that your lock will work with it. |
What replacement flap should I use? The Ideal VIP uses the Ideal Ultra-Flex (also marketed as "Multi-Flex") replacement flap. |
Is changing the flap difficult? Nope, all you need is a screwdriver to remove the frame. You do not need to uninstall the entire pet door. |
What type of pet door is installed in the VIP? Ideal uses the Ultra-Flex pet door. It is more durable than the Original doors used in the more economical panels. It has 3 lexan sections that pivot on a rod at the top so the doors tend to last longer and are more resistant to chewing. |
I don't need the weather resistance of the VIP. Are there alternatives? Ideal makes the VPP panel, which is a more economy style door. It has the Ideal Original door and single pane glass. |
Is vinyl better than aluminum? If you have a white vinyl door, this one will fit nicely as far as aesthetics. Also, if you live in cold climates, you won't run the risk of having condensation develop as can happen with aluminum. |
Is this the only vinyl dog door? No, the Ideal VPP is the more economical version for vinyl doors and the Endura Flap Vinyl Sliding Glass Dog Door. |
What energy-efficient sliding glass door pet panels do you have for vinyl doors? The vinyl ideal patio pet door panel we recommend is the VIP. It has dual-pane glass and an energy-saving flap design. |
My neighbor has a pet door panel that I want. Her invoice has a part number of 01RI30 P. What should I order? This would be the Ideal VIP 150 Patio Panel Dog Door with a track height of 76 3/4" - 78 1/2" and a medium size flap. |

Solid upgrade
I had a single pane Percival patio dog door that our dog kept chewing the flap. I decided to upgrade to the Petdoor model because of the flap thickness. I was a little hesitant due to the cost - but you get what you pay for. Petdoor originally sent the wrong door to me but immediately made it right. The quality of the Petdoor far exceeds that of other brands. To me it’s worth every penny!

Wish I had bought one sooner
This door took some time to install but so worth it. I no longer have to remove the door when we have crazy cold weather or leave the house as it's insulated and I can lock my slider to it. My downstairs stays warm and it's the same doggy door is big enough for my 100lbs dog to use.

The Best
Door is not an easy install. I hired my handyman to do it for me. My dog is a dashaund/beagle mix and 11 years old. I used his favorite treats as a lure for his training to use it. No problem after two days. Love this pet door. Highest material quality, fits perfectly in my slider, weather resistant and locks up tight when we're not home. Absolutely worth the money.
The BEST!!!
I had to order a new doggie door because we replaced all are doors and windows with vinyl hurricane windows, and after looking for the best doggie door I found it.. Looks great and very easy to install and take out. Well worth the money.
Excellent quality construction, very good installation instructions.
Matches perfectly with our sliding door. Feels solid, secure and weather tight. Only hitch so far is that the magnetized flap makes it difficult for a cat. Ours would not push against it instinctively, no matter how badly he wanted in/out. I had to remove the third section so that he could stick his head into that space to start with. I'm hoping that once he's got the idea, I can put that last section back in place for better insulation, bugs, etc.
