Endura Flap vs. Hale Pet Doors

If you’re in the market for a weather-resistant, high-quality pet door, you’ve likely come across the Endura Flap and Hale Pet Doors. Endura and Hale—both known for their quality products—are two of our most popular brands among pet owners.

Despite the fact they are both best-sellers, the two doors are very different. We’re here to talk about what sets these super-star brands apart from the competition, and how they compare to each other. Here are some key considerations when deciding between an Endura Flap and a Hale Pet Door:

  • The size of your pets
  • The climate you live in
  • Where you want to install

Considering Pet Size

Small Pets:

Endura and Hale each have doors for small pets. The Hale Cat Door for Doors and Hale Cat Door for Walls are both excellent choices (also great for tiny dogs). Check out Cat Doors vs. Dog Doors to learn about what sets them apart.

For a more weather-resistant door for small pets, see the Endura Flap Cat Door for Walls. If you want quick and easy installation, Endura also carries a Cat Door for Horizontal Sliding Windows.

However, it’s important to note that because the Endura flap is made of highly weather-resistant material, it is heavier and may be harder for a particularly small or timid pet to push through.

Remember to Measure Your Pet before purchasing a pet door!

Medium & Large pets:

For medium-sized pets, Endura and Hale both have great options such as the Endura Door Mount and Hale Door Mount. The same goes for large pets, so the choice would come down to your insulation needs.

For super large pets, however, Hale is the way to go. Hale has an extensive range of sizes to accommodate large pets. For instance, the Hale Wall Mount “Giant” flap size is 27-½” tall, making it the perfect choice for big breeds like Great Danes or Mastiffs.

Pets Sharing:

If you have pets of different sizes sharing the door (particularly in a dog and cat sharing), Hale is a great option. As mentioned above, they have super large flap sizes for big dogs, but the vinyl flap material is light enough for smaller dogs or cats to push through.

Insulation Value

Moderate Weather:

While the light vinyl flap on Hale pet doors makes it great for pets of varying sizes to share, it is not as weather-resistant as the Endura Flap. Most Hale doors have the option of a double flap for improved insulation, but they are still best for moderate climates because of the thinner, lighter flap material.

Harsh Weather:

When you live in a harsh climate, the Endura Flap is the best pet door for maximum insulation. Check out 10 Reasons Why the Endura Flap is the Best Pet Door here. The flexible yet tough polyolefin flap and the Endura’s sturdy framing hold up to temperatures as low as -40℉ and 50 mph winds.

See the classic Endura Door Mount and Endura Wall Mount, both of which have the option of a double flap for extreme weather resistance. We recommend the Severe Weather Vinyl Sliding Glass Dog Door for sliding glass door installations—it fits snugly in vinyl sliding door tracks and keeps the heat and cold out of your home (both doors are also available as cat doors for sliding doors).

Installation Location

Both Endura Flap and Hale carry classic pet door installation styles, including the door mount, wall mount, sliding glass insert, and window panel insert. Below, however, are a few installation styles unique to each:

Endura Flap:

Endura Thermo Panel 3e:

The Thermo Panel 3e is perfect for pet owners who want a highly insulating pet door for sliding glass doors. While Hale carries a standard patio panel insert as well, the Endura Flap is the superior option in terms of insulation value.

Endura Flap Storm Door:

The Endura Flap storm door is a storm door with a pre-installed Endura Flap pet door—perfect for extreme climates. For thin storm or standard doors, a great option is the Endura Flap Pet Door for Thin Doors. It installs into doors less than 1-1/8" thick.

Pet Door Guys In the Glass with Endura Flap:

The Pet Door Guys “In the Glass” door replaces a pane of glass from your existing slider with one that has an Endura Flap pre-installed.

Hale Pet Door for Screens:

The Hale pet door for screens is perfect for screen enclosures, doors, or porches. Like other Hale Pet Door models, it comes in a wide range of sizes from Small to Giant.

Hale Custom Door Mount:

If you have a pre-existing hole in your door from an old pet door, you can replace it with this custom-sized Hale door mount. This is also an excellent option for installation in French doors. For walls, see the Hale Custom Wall Mount Pet Door.

Hale Through the Glass Pet Door:

The Hale Through the Glass Pet Door is an innovative pet door that installs directly in glass doors, meaning it won’t take up space in your sliding door track the way a sliding glass pet door panel insert would.

Which Door is Better for You?

Check out Hale if:

  • You have very large pets
  • You have a large and small pet sharing

Check out Endura Flap if:

  • You live in a harsh climate
  • You have very active pets and want the flap to last a lifetime

We hope that the information above helped narrow down some of the differences between Hale and Endura Flap. They're both excellent doors that have appeared on our Bestselling Pet Doors list. Once you have a new pet door, see this Training Guide for some tips & tricks.
